A little more about Kleidoscope Studios

Hello, I’m Greg Kleid (get it, Kleid O Scope). I moved to the most creative area I could find to live among other artists and like-minded individuals who share my vision.  I have always loved creating art as gifts but with all the inspiration around me, I knew I could extend my talents outside of my circle of friends and family.

I have been an artist since I was able to pick up a pencil.  While my siblings were playing sports, I molded my passion by creating my own comic book characters and winning several art contests at school and in my community.  I went on to graduate from Ringling School of Art and Design with a Bachelor’s Degree in Illustration and began my career working as Lead Production Artist at a software company in Connecticut. Eventually, I moved on to other companies creating props, characters, and backgrounds for clients like VH-1 and College Humor.

These days I will use a favorite photo of a beloved pet and recreate it from scratch in Photoshop bringing it back to life on canvas or quality photo paper.  My animal portraits have often been mistaken for photographs because they are so sharp!  My talent and Photoshop know-how allow me to take ideas from multiple photos to create the perfect portrait of your best furry friend!  I also paint and draw portraits of family, friends, landscape and architecture.

Visit the ART page to see examples of my work and don’t forget to follow me and my art journey at Kleidoscope Art Studios on Facebook.

Why pets, people and places?

Using all the knowledge I gained through my years in the game and animation worlds I was confident that I could start my own business and create works of art that interest me and my wife.  I am a huge animal lover and I decided after the passing of my wife's cat Boo that I would create a painting of a great image of her cat laying near a fireplace for her 2010 Christmas present.  Her reaction was very emotional and it was then that I realized I wanted to do that for others and help them remember their pets forever with a painting that looks like an oil, but is actually a digital creation that will last forever.

I also like to go back to the roots of my college years and get away from the computer and get outside and draw from life.  I started with 4 locations that I loved in the beautiful Asheville area we live in and just sat in front of these places, got out the sketchbook and started to draw them with just a simple number 2 pencil.  It was as if I came around full circle and was creating art that I love and used to do when there wasn't a computer to draw with.

I hope you enjoy our website and if you are looking to have your pet painted on canvas, or your home penciled on paper please contact us and we can go from there! - Greg K.
